Whether you are here for a short visit or overnight stay, our caring staff is committed to making your experience exceptional.
If your son or daughter is coming in for a special test such as a blood test or an x-ray, you don't need to bring much with you. These tests are quick and your child will be in and out in a very short time. It can be helpful to bring along a stuffed friend or toy to help your child feel more comfortable. Hand-held games and books are also ideal to help pass the time and provide a calming diversion. Once your child’s test is complete, you can leave the hospital to either go home or return to the clinic to check in with your doctor.
While you don’t need to bring too much with you for your stay, you may want to pack a favorite blanket or stuffed animal to lend snuggly support. Your child may also appreciate having his or her own slippers, toothbrush, and toothpaste while here.
Rest assured that our staff is specially trained in caring for children. We strive to make the surgical process and the entire experience as stress-free as possible for you and your son or daughter.
•Registration — When you arrive, please stop at the registration desk in the atrium of the hospital. Your information will be verified by the registration staff and they will be taken to their room in ambulatory care. Here our nurses will ask a few questions to make sure there are no changes in your child’s health since you last talked, carefully explain what is going to happen, and answer any questions.
• Operating Room/Procedure Room — Once your child is ready for surgery, he or she will move to the Operating Room or Procedure Room. An adult caregiver may go with your child to the operating room to offer comfort as your child falls asleep for their surgery. A nurse or patient care partner will be with you and your child and once they are asleep you will be taken back to your child’s room to wait.
Sometimes following surgery your child may need to spend the night. There are also those times that they may become sick unexpectedly and you will be guided to throughout the hospital stay. These can be stressful times and it is our goal to make sure you have an exceptional experience during your stay.
