Here’s the letter that Cody’s mother, Katie, sent to us following his stay at the American Family Children’s Hospital at Watertown Regional Medical Center:
My son, Cody, had a recent stay at the American Family Children's Hospital at Watertown. I just want to tell everyone what a positive experience it was. I don't even know where to begin. If I were to include everything, this letter could be about five pages long.
Everyone we had contact with was wonderful, and many went way above and beyond. I know I won't be able to mention everyone, but a big thanks to Dena and all of her staff.
Although Cody had a very serious illness, he did not feel sick. So, he was able to really take advantage of all the fun stuff there was to do; and, believe me, he did it all!! Even though he was there for 3 full nights and 3 full days, he never once complained he was bored or wanted something else to do. He was so occupied by everything that he never even complained about having to take "Bob" (he named his IV pole!) everywhere!
My daughter's birthday fell during Cody's hospitalization. We had her present there, and Grandma was there also with her present for Ashley. After I picked Ashley up from school and we got back to Cody's room, the nurses came in with cake and we all sang Happy Birthday. It was very unexpected; and, again, way above and beyond.
Cody's first question in the ER when we found out he would have to stay was, "Do I get room service?" Dietary was wonderful. They always brought him exactly what he wanted. They also told us several times that if there was anything else we wanted, to let them know and they would get it. I really appreciate that they always bring a second tray for the caregiver. Although I didn't really have an appetite, I knew I needed to eat. I know I would not have eaten very well if it wasn't for that tray being there for me too.
Cody did not want to leave. He was having so much fun. He told Vicki he wants to come back and stay over spring break! A great big, heartfelt thank you to all! |
