Watertown Regional Medical Center is the first in the state of Wisconsin to be part of Wisconsin Statewide Health Information Network (WISHIN) Pulse. WISHIN Pulse is the exchange of health information through technology that gives healthcare providers access to patients’ medical information throughout the state of Wisconsin.
Through the use of electronic medical records, regardless of the EMR system the organization uses, providers can now access WISHIN Pulse online to view an aggregated summary view of a patient’s health information from all providers who have seen the patient. This includes single provider offices to nursing homes to big hospital systems.
Why WISHIN Pulse? With the ability to view a patient’s health information that spans all providers who have seen the patient, regardless of health system affiliation, it minimizes duplication of tests and other services. It also provides critical information such as health history, allergies, medications, allowing the provider to make a more informed clinical decision. In cases of emergency, this is critical information if the patient is unable to communicate.
WISHIN Pulse, a non-profit organization chosen by the state of Wisconsin to implement the health information exchange, carefully protects the privacy and security of patient records. They comply with the policies, procedures and regulations established by HIPAA. Only providers involved in the patients’ care view the records when needed to provide or coordinate care. Participation in the health information exchange is automatic; however patients do have the ability to opt-out of the exchange of information. Click here to opt-out.
